Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Vaucrains, 1er Cru, 2022
Complex with glorious dark briary fruit alongside brighter red fruit highlights. An excellent and inviting nose. The palate, less structured and powerful than some from this vineyard, is a refined and engaging rendition of Vaucrains; full of charm and polished layers of fruit and spice this is pure textural seduction and has real persistence to it. Very good! One of the great vineyards of Nuits, the Gouges old vines parcels in Vaucrains always produce very small berries, making for a very powerful, intense wine. The vineyard is influenced by its red stony clay soils and the cooling effect of the forest.
critic reviews
The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru was picked towards the beginning of the harvest and is matured in 30% new oak. This is blessed with some of the best aromatics from Gouges: detailed and mineral-driven, a real and tangible sense of Pinoté here with a palpable sense of energy. The medium-bodied palate has filigree tannins, joyous red berry fruit and wonderful tension, fanning out with joie-de-vivre on the finish. The infusion/low sulfur regime plus fewer punch downs for this wine has really seen this achieve new heights.
