The 2022 Mazoyeres-Chambertin Grand Cru reveals aromas of rose petals, plums, orange zest, spices and smoke, followed by a full-bodied, supple and suave palate, its enveloping core of fruit framed by melting tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. Readers will remember that until 2021, this cuvee was sold as Charmes-Chambertin; but it's the label that has changed, not its origins.
The 2022 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet, opening with black cherries, wild strawberries, and crushed stone. There is real vibrancy here. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly rustic opening. It’s a solid Charmes-Chambertin with good depth but lacks some precision on the finish. A slipped catch from an otherwise strong line-up?
