Chambolle Musigny, La Combe d'Orveaux Ultra, 1er Cru, 2011
Vivid, clear dark berry fruit flavours, floral and intense notes of bramble, loganberry and sloe; so long and fragrant and, for all of its force, elegant. Stunning! This cuvée comes from the oldest plot of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru La Combe d’Orveaux. It is 70 years old, adjacent to le Musigny and usually produces seven barrels, two of which are bottled under the appellation Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru La Combe d’Orveaux, Cuvée Ultra, the rest are blended in the regular Combe d’Orveaux bottling.
critic reviews
One of the highlights in the range, the 2011 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveaux Cuvée Ultra possesses superb balance. Sweet herbs, crushed rose petals, licorice, spices all meld together gracefully in the glass. This is a great example of the Perrot-Minot house style. All the elements fall into place effortlessly in a rich, resonant Chambolle endowed with tons of pure structure. Perrot-Minot used 50% whole clusters here, but they are barely noticeable. The finish simply dazzles.
