Charmes Chambertin, Grand Cru, 2017
Charmes-Chambertin with attitude. Gorgeous and very Burgundian. The typically delicate, perfumed, soft red berry fruit of Charmes- Chambertin boosted by a mineral grip and energy. Edgy notes of crushed rocks complement and add focus to the crystal clear, floral cherry and strawberry fruit. Long, refined and radiant. Breathtaking. Christophe Perrot-Minot has a stunning parcel of old vines in the prime Haut part of Charmes, opposite Rousseau’s Chambertin. There is much less clay here than further down the slope. This gives a very refined wine.
critic reviews
The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a tight-lipped bouquet that is missing a little fruit intensity compared to the domaine’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, taut and linear. The precise, slightly austere finish feels more like a Mazis-Chambertin and could do with a little more flesh.
