Nuits St Georges, Les Murgers des Cras, Vielles Vignes, 2020
Does Villages level wine get better than this? An unfair competition perhaps given that this is all de-classified Premier Cru fruit. This not only shows great depth and complexity but such finesse, too. Free-flowing blueberry, loganberry and tayberry fruit glides across the palate, punctured intermittently by bursts of minerals. This is layered, round, fresh and long. One of the most complete Nuits we have ever tasted. Such is Christophe's perfectionism that he would rather produce an outstanding villages than a merely very good 1er Cru. This villages is purely made from 1er Cru fruit, the majority of it being Richemone (60%) the balance made up of 20% each of Cras and Murgers
critic reviews
The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Murgers des Cras is slightly earthier on the nose compared to the Domaine’s other cuvées, brambly red fruit mixed with light heather and orange rind scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very harmonious, not enormous depth of grip here but neat and precise on the finish. I just want it to "let go" by the time this is in bottle.
