Gevrey Chambertin, Au Closeau, 1er Cru, 2022
A lively, dancing, lifted Gevrey with notes of flowers amongst the mid weight orange zest scented red fruits. A firm stoniness at core provides focus, while a bright and fresh acidity gives a real sense of animation. Hard to recall a better Closeau. Delicious. Au Closeau benefits from having very deep soils with water reserves which suit well the warm year and, in Caroline’s words “make it quite easy to keep freshness in the wine”. Fermented with 30% whole bunches and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
Aromas of smoky berries, plums, incense and petals introduce the 2022 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Au Closeau, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy wine with lively acids and powdery tannins that's produced from a parcel opposite Les Corbeaux where the soils are rather deep.
The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Au Closeau 1er Cru is blended with 55% whole bunches. This has quite a high-toned nose, needing a touch more cohesion to develop during the barrel maturation. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite firm in the mouth. There’s a bit of grittiness towards the finish, with mainly black fruit laced with a touch of menthol. Fine.
