Gevrey-Chambertin, En Champs, 2018
A little more arid and less fruity than the Villages. Tight-knit and serious. Ripe, black cherry fruit and creme de mure flavours mingled with resinous notes of pine and salt, a present but velvety tannic structure grips and give focus to the rich, concentrated fruit. Sun-kissed but intense and full of personality. A fine, relatively cool Gevrey lieu-dit that typically yields, tense, mineral wines. Fully destemmed and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs has a well-defined, detailed bouquet of great precision (what a bon idée to separate this out from the Gevrey Village in 2015). The palate is medium-bodied with quite dense black fruit and a little tarry in texture, with impressive salinity and focus toward the finish. Recommended.
