Gevrey-Chambertin, En Champs, 2022

justerini & brooks tasting note

This has a restrained nose, with tight grained rocky aromas combining with savoury, sapid, cacao and bramble notes.. Quite an earthy Gevrey attack, with the light touch Drouhin feel keeping it nimble. Mineral, dark fruited, but suave too. Fermented with 10% whole bunches and aged in 40% new oak.

critic reviews

89-91/100William Kelley,Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Bottled separately since 2015, the 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs derives from holdings on the Brochon side that produce a more structured wine. Exhibiting aromas of dark berries, cassis and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit and rich, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the finish. Hail reduced yields here this year.

The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs includes 31% whole bunches (exactly). This shows a bit of reduction on the nose at the moment, more black fruit than the Clos de Combes with just a little warmth. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins. There’s quite fleshy black fruit here with gentle grip, though it needs a tad more tension to come through on the finish. Solid.
