Gevrey Chambertin, En Champs, 2019
A little more arid and less fruity than the Villages. Tight-knit and serious. Ripe, black cherry fruit and creme de mure flavours mingled with resinous notes of pine and salt, a present but velvety tannic structure grips and give focus to the rich, concentrated fruit. Sun-kissed but intense and full of personality. A fine, relatively cool Gevrey lieu-dit that typically yields, tense, mineral wines. Fully destemmed and aged in 40% new oak.
critic reviews
The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is very closed on the nose, touches of rose petal infusing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red berry fruit, cumin and cracked black pepper notes. There is plenty of energy and I admire the cohesion and concentration on the finish. Give this 24 months to open once in bottle.
