Puligny-Montrachet, Les Perrières, 1er Cru, 2019
This cuvée has excelled in recent years and is really starting to challenge its stable mates as one the best 1er Crus in this cellar. So refined and well balanced, the most typically "Puligny" of Sauzet's wines. Silky, sunny yellow fruits mixed with bright minerals and flint. Tactile but with crunch and drive. Long, complex and stylish, this demonstrates incredible balance and controlled power. From a well-drained vineyard situated next to Referts, but very different in style, with a similar clay content although more compact and scattered with small rocky stones. The resulting wines are invariably more mineral than Referts.
critic reviews
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrieres is showing well, unfurling in the glass with bright, gently reductive aromas of crisp orchard fruit, toasted nuts and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and incisive, with a lively spine of acidity and a saline finish, it's promising.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Perrières 1er Cru sported a lot of reduction on the nose that made it difficult to read on my visit. The palate meanwhile, is clean and fresh, slightly reduced with a dense, concentrated orange pith and mandarin finish. That reduction will go by the time of bottling, although I am more convinced by some of the domaine's other cuvées at this early juncture.
