Chassagne Montrachet, Les Vergers, 1er Cru, 2023
A little smokier and less bodied than the Chenevottes, with more of a leaning to stones and salt. While the plots are adjacent, the soils here are more limestone-dominated, which gives a leaner attack and notes of fresh lemon, grapefruit oil and fresh verbena. The bite and grip of extract provides wonderful control. A fine east-facing vineyard with poor soils on the Saint-Aubin side of the village.
critic reviews
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 1er Cru is a blend of two lieux-dits. This has a lovely bouquet with mineral-driven yellow fruit notes and fine tension with a touch of Clementine coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a slightly reduced entry. It has moderate depth, not complex or powerful, but there is sufficient tension on the finish to keep you coming back. This ranks alongside the 2022.
