Mercurey, En Sazenay, 1er Cru, 2020
A more gentle or translucent Mercurey you will not find. All on delicacy and beauty - fine, bright ripe red cherry and damson fruit shimmers through the palate. Crisp clean and fragrant, this is a beautifully digest Burgundy that keeps you coming back for more. A 1.81ha parcel situated at the top of a steep east-facing slope. De-stalked and aged in 20% new oak barrels for 12 months followed by 6 months in tank.

The 2020 Mercurey Sazenay 1er Cru comes from vines replanted in 1998 with a massale selection with one-third of the old vines maintained. Strawberry and raspberry preserve on the nose, though not jammy, the palate is well balanced with a little more backbone than the Les Saumonts, through I prefer the joie-de-vivre on its fellow Mercurey.
