Mercurey, En Sazenay, 1er Cru, 2020
An exceptionally present aromatic profile is allied to translucent fruit in this delicate Mercurey, a far cry from the more rustic Pinots the region is known for. Impressive depth and focus, glassy tannins and crystalline cherry fruit on the finish. Class. A cuvee that seems to get better and better with every passing year. A 1.81ha parcel situated at the top of a steep east-facing slope. De-stalked and aged in oak barrels for 12 months followed by 6 months in tank.
critic reviews
The 2020 Mercurey Sazenay 1er Cru comes from vines replanted in 1998 with a massale selection with one-third of the old vines maintained. Strawberry and raspberry preserve on the nose, though not jammy, the palate is well balanced with a little more backbone than the Les Saumonts, through I prefer the joie-de-vivre on its fellow Mercurey.
