Chambolle Musigny, Les Cras, 1er Cru [SHC]

Chambolle Musigny, Les Cras, 1er Cru [SHC], 2013

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Vital, high-pitched red fruit and mineral flavours. So refined and airy, light but intense, stony and vivid. Clear-cut dark and red berry fruit, fine-boned, agile and suave. A class act. Along with Veroilles and Fuées, Cras is one of the higher Chambolle vineyards and has very poor, stony soils that producers, racy, reserved wines that blossom with age.

Good dark red. Enticing high-pitched perfume of red berries, flowers and minerals. Juicy, spicy and sharply delineated, delivering a lovely combination of energy and ripeness to its purple fruit and mineral flavors. A distinctly vibrant wine with terrific flavor intensity if a bit less power than the Combottes. But I prefer this more mineral style of Chambolle.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Cras has a very reticent, broody bouquet that does not want to come out to play. The palate is vibrant and focused with wonderful chalky tannins, citric acidity and a long, lightly spiced finish that fans out with vim and vigor. This should be very satisfying once in bottle, although I wager that it will deserve more cellaring than Roumiers other 2013s.
