Hospices de Beaune
Mazis Chambertin, Grand Cru, Cuvée Madeleine Collignon, 2020
justerini & brooks tasting note
The Mazis 2020 is as generous as ever, sleek-textured fruit prolonged on the expansive finish by a nice freshness. It's openness belying its true Grand Cru length and power. One of the jewels in the Hospices crown, this magnificent plot was donated by Jean Collignon in 1976 and named in memory of his mother. The vines lie in the heart of the hillside in the “Mazis Haut” on the same contours as its immediate neighbour, Chambertin Clos de Bèze. Old vines planted in 1947 account for nearly 60% of this blend, no doubt explaining the typically silken tannins this cuvée boasts year in, year out.
