Nuits St Georges, Clos de La Maréchale, 1er Cru, 2014
Over the years this has become one of the most complete wines in the Mugnier cellar, the 2014 combines noble fine flavours of raspberry, fresh cherry and flower with darker bramble, undergrowth and mineral flavours. These open, fruity flavours married to a toned, muscular structure and a certain tension make this an incredibly suave and well proportioned Nuits. Clos de la Marechale was taken back from Faiveley by Freddy Mugnier as of the 2004 vintage. At 9ha it is the largest monopole in the Cote d'Or. Based in the Premeaux Prissey commune, where the wines are very structured, Clos de La Marechale is built for ageing. Freddy Mugnier's skill has been in taming the naturally tannic character of the wines without surpressing any vineyard expression.
critic reviews
Bright medium red. Dark cherry, raspberry and flowers on the nose, plus a whiff of earth. Much tighter in the mouth than the Chambolle villages but already wonderfully suave and perfumed, showing a dusty, tactile quality and a lovely balance of sweet and saline elements. The dark raspberry and menthol flavors carry impressively on the perfumed, minerally back end.
