Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
Laurent Tribut, Chablis, Beauroy, 1er Cru, 2018

Broad, sun-kissed but full of Chablisien character. Juicy yellow plum, a little more power and middle to it and more ripeness than the regular Chablis, with a salty minerality keeping the ripe fruit in check.

Maturity:
Keep/Drink
ABV:
13%
89/100

The 2018 Chablis Beauroy 1er Cru bides its time on the nose, eventually, almost reluctantly offering oyster shell and light mandarin aromas, and a touch of melted candle wax in the background. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Cohesive and quite saline in the mouth, it is not the most complex Beauroy I have tasted from Tribut, but it possesses fine length. Drink over the next 6–8 years.

Laurent Tribut

The Tributs are a quiet and unassuming couple who live in the village of Poinchy where they make minute quantities of exquisite Chablis. This is a veritable small family business that sees Laurent working in his 5 hectares of vines and making the wine (with his young daughter who is studying viticulture in Beaune soon to join him) while his wife, Marie-Clotilde, looks after business matters. Like his brother-in-law, Vincent Dauvissat, Laurent believes in ageing his wines in oak barrels (7 to 8 years old) after fermentation in steel cuvees. The provenance of the oak is mixed (Allier, Vosges, Chatillons) which adds complexity to his mineral yet unctous wines. These are authentic, artisan Chablis that demand time, even the Chablis Village can take a couple of years to be at its best.
