Leflaive
Puligny Montrachet, Clavoillon, 1er Cru, 2017
justerini & brooks tasting note
A lot of texture and richness for a Puligny, but this is a typical Clavoillon. Dense and unctuous, though there is an uplifting crispy edge encircling the yellow plum and greengage fruit. Finishing on more savoury notes of citrus pith and rock salt. Somewhere between Puligny and Meursault in style. A flagship for Domaine Leflaive, and their biggest holding at 4.5 hectares, it feels like Clavaillon has progressed considerably over the last ten years.

(the 2017 premier crus are aging in about 20% new oak): Aromas of peach, vanilla and spicy oak are lifted by stony energy. Precise and clean, showing lovely density without any impression of weight. A strong peach flavor is accented by a touch of minerality on the subtly long back end.
