Aromas of sweet red berries and cherries introduce the 2023 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Angles, a medium-bodied, supple and fine-boned wine that's pure, mineral and precise. This invariably pretty, open cuvee is one of the sleepers in the d'Angerville range.

The 2023 Volnay Clos des Angles 1er Cru is much fresher on the nose than the Premier Cru, lively with vivacious Morello cherry and raspberry scents plus a little more mineralité. The palate is balanced with a core of sweet red fruit, but the pH seems lower so that there is more tension and race on the finish. Though not long-term, this is a well-crafted, enjoyable Volnay.
