Volnay, Les Fremiets, 1er Cru, 2011

A mightily impressive Frémiets, intense mineral and crunchy, cherry fruit. Bursting with vivid ripe fruit flavours with touches of stone and undergrowth too. Plenty of muscle but so agile with it. Boisterous and bubbling with personality, a very complex Frémiets. A great success. Further up the hill than Clos des Angles, and as a result a vineyard with less deep soil – the resulting wine is more muscular, mineral and tannic.
