Vosne-Romanée, Les Chaumes, 1er Cru, 2024
As you might expect compared to the Nuits before it, the Chaumes offers up a wave of velvety fruit, with soft-set plum notes and a broader feel to the tannins. Bittersweet notes of rosehip and cherry stone bring lift, while the finish brings an earthiness into play. A relatively rich and generous Vosne that comes from a vineyard with a good amount of clay in the soils, situated just below Malconsorts.
critic reviews
The 2024 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru was reduced from three to two tanks, a ferment of the two plots separately and then blended together. Raised in 60% new oak, you might be deceived into thinking there are a few stems in the mix but of course, there is none. Dark berry fruit, again that signature tea leaf note, more sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Plenty of freshness, quite open and generous with a fresh, quite sapid finish that leaves you wanting more. A lovely if early-drinking Chaumes.
