Chassagne Montrachet, La Romanée, 1er Cru, 2018

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

Like stones wrapped in silk this has the most beautiful melt in the mouth texture, with a tightly-coiled spring of energy at its core. Floral notes of honeysuckle and acacia make this engaging and gentle, but it is serious and persistent too with a flinty edge and hazelnut complexity. Long, fluid and assured. One of the great whites of the vintage. The domaine’s oldest vines lie in this vineyard, between 50 and 100 years old, on stony soils with a little more clay content than the Grande Montagne, Grandes Ruchottes and Caillerets. Thierry's parcel is situated at the very top of the vineyard where the soils are at their stoniest.

critic reviews

90/100Neal Martin,Vinous

The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has a nuanced nose with citrus peel, pressed white flowers, white chalk and a hint of orange blossom. Beautifully controlled, the oak is well integrated. The palate is well-defined with a subtle reduction on the entry, fine acidity, quite sappy and focused towards the tensile finish. Just a hint of grapefruit emerges on the lingering aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.
