The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin Cuvée des Merles Grand Cru offers ripe black cherries mixed with crème de cassis and violet on the nose, becoming more floral as it opens in the glass. The weighty palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannin and quite voluminous for a Charmes-Chambertin. The finish features slightly tarry red fruit laced with black pepper. I would just like more red fruit to balance the black here.
