Corton-Charlemagne, Grand Cru, 2020
A beautifully gentle, layered Corton Charlemagne built up of many fine strands of flavour. Refined and subtle, yet seriously long too, this is a whispered Grand Cru of great elegance and finesse with lots to give in a very fine boned package. Half the blend comes from Le Charlemagne, facing Aloxe-Corton, the other half from En Charlemagne, facing Pernand, right up at the top of the hill abutting the woods. The blend produces a wine of great balance and racy complexity.
critic reviews
The 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru sports a noticeable reduction on the nose, and it doesn't quite work, suppressing the terroir profile and fruit. Maybe that will alleviate with bottle age? Aeration fails to dislodge it here. The palate is well-balanced with a honeyed entry, rich and almost Sauternes-like in texture. I wonder if there is a bit of botrytised fruit here? Still, I admire the back end of this Grand Cru that caresses the mouth and has a luxuriant quality to it. Give it two or three years in bottle. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.
