Nuits-Saint-Georges, Les Vaucrains, 1er Cru, 2024
Deeper and darker, more backward and closed than any other wine in the range, but there’s a reserved power here, a sense of brooding depth. On the fruit front it is a much darker prospect than LSG, with small dark berries and a fine-grained tannic spine. Mineral to the core, with a slick of savoury dark fruit above. One of the great vineyards of Nuits that often rivals Les St Georges, above which it sits directly, albeit in a more brooding and muscular style.
critic reviews
The 2024 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru perhaps does not quite have the brightness or the éclat of some of Chevillon's other Premier Crus, a little sullen at the moment, perhaps still upset about the growing season. The palate is a different matter with finely chiselled tannins, more granular in texture, quite tactile with impressive weight and poise towards the pure finish. If the aromatics gel and gain complexity this could be a gem.
