Gevrey Chambertin, Les Seuvrees, 2023
A beautifully clear-eyed Gevrey where savoury nuance mingles with sweet spice and bright berry fruit. Excellent energy defines this, with powdered, rock-dusted tannins, pert dark fruit and a fine gripping minerality on the palate. A fine Gevrey village vineyard situated just below Mazoyères on the border with Morey-St-Denis. Fermented with 100% whole bunches and aged in used oak barrels only.
critic reviews
The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées presents a pretty nose with notable purity of fruit, featuring raspberry and wild strawberry and a hint of cassis lingering in the background, becoming quite floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a rounded, slightly confit-like entry. Perhaps this is a little sun-kissed compared to other cuvées due to the late-season heat wave, though I appreciate the spiciness that defines the finish. Kind of a "fun" Gevrey to enjoy over the next decade.
Aromas of sweet red berries, orange zest and peonies introduce Groffier's 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrees, a medium to full-bodied, pure and precise wine that's lively and mineral. This derives from vines planted on the rise toward Morey, half of which are old.
