Bollinger, Rosé, NV
Bollinger Rosé NV is crafted from 62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay, and 14% Pinot Meunier, with over 85% of the blend sourced from Grand and Premier Cru vineyards. A key element of this Champagne is the addition of 5-6% superb red wine from the Poirier Saint-Pierre and Montboeuf plots in Verzenay, or those in Aÿ, which provides aromatic depth and a bold structure. This wine undergoes at least three years of ageing, with the red wine addition enhancing its complexity, much like the legendary Côte aux Enfants plot. Bollinger Rosé maintains the elegance and presence characteristic of the house’s finest blends. Visually, the wine presents a bright rosé with subtle golden hues. The nose reveals a noble array of red berries, including red currant, cherry, and wild strawberry, complemented by a touch of spice, reminiscent of Bollinger’s Special Cuvée. On the palate, it offers a delicate balance of structure, length, and vivacity, with a tannic finish from the red wine. The fine, velvety bubbles carry flavors of wild berries, and the richness is beautifully balanced by a fresh, mineral finish. Elegant and refined, Bollinger Rosé is perfect as an aperitif or with a variety of dishes and will evolve gracefully with time.
critic reviews
Deep coral with glints of gold, the Rosé Special Cuvée NV is an assemblage rosé made of 62% Pinot Noir, 24% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Meunier of which 5-6% is still red wine. Based on the 2019 with 50% of reserve wines, it is finished with an eight gram per liter dosage. Bursting from the glass with showy red fruit aromas intermingling with ripe white peach, yellow mango, baking spice, lemon peel and a hint of crème fraiche, the palate is full-bodied and round with plush fruit intensity that has a savory quality, and plenty of softly stimulating acidity to add freshness to the finish. This is a great any time rosé.
The latest release of Bollinger's NV Brut Rose is showing especially well, offering up complex aromas of sweet stone fruit, honeycomb, freshly baked bread and orange oil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, pillowy and vinous palate. Layered and concentrated, with a pretty pinpoint mousse and ripe but racy acids, it concludes with a long, expansive finish.
(60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Meunier; roughly 9 g/l dosage; L1403805): Bright orange-pink. Fresh red berries and tangerine on the spice- and smoke-accented nose and in the mouth. Sappy and expansive, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a touch of toasty lees. Tightens up on the long, mineral-driven finish, which leaves a chalky mineral nuance behind.
