Cuvée Louise, Rosé, 1999

Available Vintages
justerini & brooks tasting note

The Cuvée Louise Rosé Vintage 1999 is made from the vineyards of Avize, Cramant and Ay, three of Champagne’s greatest winegrowing areas, with the addition of some extremely fine red wine from Bouzy. Its colour is a pale pink with a slightly salmon hue. This simply effervesces with characterful, vibrant fruit. Strong mineral, citrusy flavours with overwhelming suggestions of crushed creamy strawberry fruit, through to a tense, lifting finish. A very rare champagne.

92/100Josh Raynolds,Vinous

Light, bright gold with a delicate bead. Complex aromas of brioche, lemon rind, pear and yellow rose, with suave lees and honey undertones. Fleshy and broad, with gentle acidity reining in sweet orchard fruit and citrus flavors. The toasty note returns on the long, sappy, intriguingly smoky finish. Drinkable now as there's plenty going on, but this will repay patience.

The 1999 Brut Rose Cuvee Louise is also rather light in color, but here the wines candied, super-ripe notes play a more central role in its balance. The 1999 is made in a more overt, fruit-driven style that shows quite a bit of richness but lacks the sheer verve of the 2000. Ultimately the 1999 comes across as heavy and excessively sweet. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2013. This large, venerable estate makes a wide range of wines, the best of which is the Cuvee Louise. The estate does not disclose disgorgement dates, but in general the wines receive six to nine months on the cork prior to be being released. Importer: Vranken Pommery America, New York, NY; tel.
