Chardonnay, En Barbi, Arbois, 2016
Very tight knit at first glance , taut lemon pith, wet stone and freshly-torn verbena leaf characteristics. It may be a little aloof and its inner workings are tightly-coiled but it has a nice texture and exudes a real sense of class and style -a pedigree that reveals itself on the seamless, complex and intense finish. A prime site, one of the finest plots in the Jura, a south-facing marne clay / limestone based vineyard aged in (mainly) used oak barrels for a year.)oak barrel
critic reviews
Produced with Chardonnay grown on marl soils from south-facing vines planted in 2001, the 2016 Arbois En Barbi Chardonnay is a ripe Chardonnay from a place that tends to ripen quite early. This was vinified like the rest of the Chardonnay, with one-third in barrels and two-thirds in foudre. The nose shows some yellow fruit, and the palate seems to have more volume but, at the same time, more acidity too. They only bottled 300 magnums and a handful of half bottles, and due to the frost, they will not have more in 2017. This will be sold in the US and UK only.
