Pinot Noir, Arbois, 2018
Light, bright and jewel-like red fruit with a refreshing herbal note. Open, attractive and inviting. 2018 was the debut vintage of their 100% Pinot Noir cuvée. Emanating mostly from the domaine’s Clos Saint Laurent parcel located behind the winery, at an altitude of approximately 340-380 m. The soil is made of fallen rocks ('éboulis calcaires') of Bajocian limestone over grey marls (Lias) and the vines are between 10 and 45 years old. Elevage is in Burgundian barrels (60%) and 40% in a vat. No new oak is used.
critic reviews
The bottled 2018 Arbois Pinot Noir aged 50/50 in foudre and barrel. It delivers what the unbottled sample promised last time, a fruit-driven Pinot, with juicy fruit and good ripeness.
The 2018 Arbois Pinot Noir is the first Pinot Guillaume d'Angerville made at Domaine du Pe´lican. Beautifully lifted in the glass, with effusive aromatics, the 2018 is an absolute delight to taste. Crushed red berries, blood orange, cinnamon and rose petal all grace a Pinot that impresses for its exquisite balance and total class. A whole range of bright, saline notes extends the finish while adding notable vibrancy. I can't wait to see how it ages. Tasted from magnum.
