Sancerre, Charlouise, 2021
Sourced from a single plot of 50-year-old vines and unlike other years the 2021 uses fully destemmed fruit. The nose is delicate with notes of redcurrants, plumcot and leafy strawberry. The palate is succulent, brimming with juicy red fruit, nutmeg, wild herbs, and crushed rocks. Supporting oak adds a lovely soft texture whilst tannin adds a charming grip on the finish.
critic reviews
The 2021 Charlouise is a delicate style that flows easily across the palate. While the Pinards usually utilize whole bunch fermentation, the stems weren't ripe enough in 2021. The vintage's lightness meant that the time in barrel was also reduced. As a result, it's fresh and fruity with bright red cherry and damson fruit flavors, but there's no doubting there's density of concentration on the core. The finish is chalky and appealing.
