This year, the 2017 Monte Nero is a 50-50 blend of Grenache and Mourvedre that spent a year in used barrels. It offers such black cherries on the nose, with hints of baking spices and pencil shavings that prevent it from being a simple fruit bomb. It's medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins and solid structural underpinnings yet remains approachable and should drink well for up to a decade.
