SPECIFICATIONS
Founded in 2003 by Australian-born winemaker Paul Old, Les Clos Perdus was born from a search for forgotten vineyards hidden among the rugged hills of Corbières and Roussillon. Rather than planting new vines, Paul sought out isolated parcels of mature, often abandoned vineyards, recognising that their age, low yields and deep-rooted connection to the landscape offered the opportunity to produce wines of far greater character than any newly established estate.
In 2013, Ben Adams joined the domaine, and together they have continued to cultivate around 20 hectares of vines using organic and biodynamic principles. Their work is driven by a profound respect for the vineyard. The objective is not simply to grow healthy grapes, but to restore life to the poor, schist-rich soils and allow each parcel to express its own distinct personality. The result is fruit of exceptional balance, shaped as much by the landscape as by the hands that farm it.
The philosophy in the cellar is one of quiet restraint. Fermentations are traditional and carefully managed, with whole bunches incorporated where they enhance perfume, freshness and texture rather than through adherence to dogma. Extraction is gentle, oak is used sparingly and almost exclusively in older barrels, and every decision is made with the intention of preserving the character of the vineyard. The wines are never marked by winemaking, only gently framed by it.
There is an unmistakable sense of place running throughout the range. The whites combine Mediterranean warmth with striking freshness and mineral energy, while the reds marry wild herbs, dark berries and savoury spice with a refinement rarely associated with the region. These are wines of texture and nuance rather than sheer weight, expressing the rugged beauty of southern France with remarkable clarity.
We tasted extensively across Corbières before discovering Les Clos Perdus, and few producers captured the character of the region with such honesty. These are wines that speak quietly but confidently of their origins, combining authenticity, elegance and precision in equal measure. They remain among the finest ambassadors for the modern Languedoc and Roussillon, and we are delighted to offer them as part of our range.
