After a few years of pitiful yields, it is a delight to taste the Wildenstein once more. So complex and intricately woven, with its stylish core of red and dark berries meeting savoury elements of stone, salts and flowers. It manages to be more intense more mineral staining and incredibly saline without any excess density. This is a pure, lifted and stunning GG – without question one of the best of the entire vintage. A tiny, old stone hill within Bienenberg on near-pure limestone, it is said that Wildenstein was the first established in the region by Cistercian monks. Consequently, such was the reputation of the village of Malterdingen that Malterdingen itself became a synonym for Pinot Noir.
