Sommerhalde, Spätburgunder, Grosses Gewächs, 2022
A cool east facing site that is exposed to the wind and perhaps as a result the wine is a touch more backward and tightly wound. Salty, taut flavours open into bittersweet raspberry and red currant coulis, with a note of cool spice and a firm finish of stones and keen minerality. Nervy, taut and long, patience will be required for this electric pinot noir to blossom.
critic reviews
The 2022 Spatburgunder Bombach Sommerhalde GG has a deep color and a nose that is as fascinatingly clear and elegant as it is pure and intense. The fruit is underlaid with fine terroir spice, along with notes of iodine, which also conveys freshness, a freshness that comes from below, from the soil, not just from the fruit, and is therefore more persistent, more promising. Silky and elegant on the palate, this i s juicy and balanced, with a very dense and powerful finish, even salty. Extremely generous, it's very long-lasting and always fresh and salty. Its a great wine and certainly Julian Huber's greatest vintage from the Sommerhalde so far. Tasted at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewachs in Wiesbaden in August 2024.
