Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2015
Mineral, salty, tense long flavours of grapefruit and herbs. Concentrated, with a strong slate core, cool fruit and zesty lime pith notes. A highly grown up, serious GG with a beautiful mineral fruit balance.
critic reviews
Brashly bright and invigoratingly piquant, this bottling features fresh, seed-inflected lemon and apple with nutty and stony accents. When taken together with a firm feel, these flavors add up to a somewhat austere, even severe performance. The wine certainly displays impressive grip, leaving one’s tongue and cheeks feeling at once scoured and stained. To say that it’s more formidable than fun to drink would be an understatement. But I would certainly welcome a later visit. (Unfortunately, I missed out on tasting the corresponding Juffer-Sonnenuhr bottling.)
