Graacher Domprobst, Riesling, Kabinett, VDP Auction Release 2019, 2018
Domprobst is the latest and, apparently, last of Thomas Haag's vineyard acquisitions. As in Doctor, the new Domprobst parcel is traditionally single staked and low yielding. A softer styled Kabinett than some of the others in the Haag range, the Domprobst auction Kabinett reveals itself through subtle creamy fruits, ripe green apples and pears, violet and cassis. 65g/l residual sugar.
critic reviews
Ripe apple and pear dominate on the nose and the luscious, polished, caressingly soft palate. The finish lingers with fruity abundance reinforced by restrained sweetness, and a faint undertone of wet stone. Like its Niederberg Helden counterpart, this wine harbors 9.5% alcohol – high for a residually sweet Mosel Kabinett of its era, a measure of the restraint of sweetness toward which Thomas Haag aspired.
