There is no botrytis in this cuvee, only healthy grapes, harvested as usual from a single plot of old vines at the top of the hill grown on very fine slate. Taking a little initial coaxing this wonderfully fine Niederberg Helden opens up with a with a nose of fine slate and a gentle touch of the trademark earthy Niederberg character. Notes of orange, mandarin juice and yellow plum appear on the palate. Not really much of a bigger wine than the Spätlese, but showing even greater finesse and delicacy; indeed it is more of a plot selection than a wine of extra sugar content. Long and refreshing; an Auslese of immense poise and grace. Really superb.
