Dönnhoff
Westhofener, Riesling, Trocken, 2024
justerini & brooks tasting note
A rare examination into how a celebrated German winemaker attacks an entirely new terroir, this Westhofener (Rheinhessen) Riesling is produced from two vineyards supplied by acclaimed producer Philipp Wittmann, to help offset Dönnhoff’s catastrophic frost losses. These limestone vineyards were managed by Wittmann throughout the season but picked by the Donnhoff team on their preferred date. It has a real vital and cleansing sherbet-like limestone acidity which penetrates deep in to lime, oyster shell, apples and grated pineapple – wonderful energy, transparency and a lean, vibrancy.
