Emrich Schönleber
Monzinger, Frühlingsplätzchen, Spätlese, 2023
justerini & brooks tasting note
A stimulating Spätlese with more concentrated acidity and suggestions of white tea, jasmine and fresh peach. The Schönleber goal is to preserve vitality and pick when the first grapes are on the cusp of over ripeness.

The 2023 Riesling Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Spätlese comes from ripe, clean fruit without any botrytis. The palate is a gorgeous amalgam of white peach, pale lemon zest and a sugared tangerine's serene sweetness. The 2023 is vivid, tart, aromatic and so much more than sweet. The body of the wine is taut, brimming with aromatic zestiness. What balance, what lightness, what drive. Wonderful. This pitches 66 g/L of residual sweetness against 7.9 g/L of acidity. (Sweet)
