Im Sonnenschein, Riesling, Grosses Gewächs, 2023
Deeper in structure, more earthbound, tinted by white fruits, nut and floral accents, it has a broader shouldered, classy feel. The 2023 is long and shimmering, focused and profound without any excess weight or sweetness. Im Sonnenshein's limestone soils give this Riesling a completely different shape to others in the Rebholz range, more akin to some of the southern Rheinhessen bottlings of Battenfeld-Spanier or Wittmann.

The 2023 Im Sonnenschein Riesling GG is based on 60+-year-old vines on Muschelkalk soils. It opens with a spectacularly pure, saline, intense and calcareous nose of ripe and dense seed fruits with crystalline saline notes of crushed rocks (and there are many rocks in this site). Pure, saline and with the grip of wet stones on the palate, this is a full-bodied, juicy, elegant and textured Riesling with fine tannins and a long, complex and savory finish. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in January 2025.
The 2023 Riesling Siebeldinger Im Sonnenschein Grosses Gewächs hails from 64-year-old vines, some of the oldest in the Pfalz. The nose almost glows with fruit—beautifully ripe Reine Claude plum appears, merging into the finest serene Amalfi lemon. All seems to sink into coolness and zestiness, juicy, stony, salty and svelte. So very long and so very elegant, this is totally precise. (Bone-dry)
