August Kesseler
Lorchhauser Seligmacher, Riesling, Erste Lage, 2015
justerini & brooks tasting note
Seligmacher translates aptly as “Soul Pleasurer” and is a strong contender for promotion to GG level. Coming from the last village in the Rheingau region before you hit the Mittle-Rhein, with vines of approximately 50 years old and steep slate and quartzite soils. Crystal clear, with fantastic grapefruit aromas on the nose and an initial palate impression that is all clear minerality and finesse. Really salty and fine, with this superb polished texture, opening up to reveal stones, citrus, fresh herbs and airy Mirabelle flavours. Layered and tense, but also tender and inviting; this is something of a stunner.
