Oestricher Klosterberg, Alte Reben, Trocken Spreitzer [17 22], 2021
justerini & brooks tasting note
Rheingau afficionados will tell you that the Klosterberg has almost mythical status amongst vignerons, being an ancient, terraced site with a more prominent slate and quartzite influence. The south-west facing steep slopes, nestled under the Taunus mountains at 250m elevation, provide an ideal setting for the 50 year old vines that are used to produce this excellent cuvee. Lemon zest and herbs with plenty of gripping extract, salty notes, cracked herbs and complex minerals. There’s a great release of flavour on the palate, an intense core but plenty of immediate charm too. Raised almost entirely in old German barrels.
