Battenfeld-Spanier
Zellertal, Riesling, Trocken, 2020
justerini & brooks tasting note
Now this is a genuinely complex and interesting nose - very much a cut above your average village wine. Fractured stony notes, essential citrus oils, smoky minerality and green fruits form a very beguiling perfume. On the palate this is a wine of massive extract and tension that relaxes to reveal herb and stone fruit flavours, wrapped up in a lovely saline mineral finish. Really impressive stuff. Produced from young vines in the Pfalz’s historic Kreuzberg site. In that regard, this is very much a baby auction wine… available at a fraction of the price.
