Barolo, Sarmassa, Vigna Merenda, 2010
justerini & brooks tasting note
More flesh and less rigid than many 2010s, more sunshine and charm, but with the vintage’s great balance and precision. Complex and layered but not heavy, delicious voluptuous yet precise flavours ooze through the palate. Generous, heady and svelte notes of griotte, victoria plum, berry, cocoa and faint mineral notes. Superb. A traditionally made Barolo from a monopole parcel within the top part of the great Sarmassa vineyard, next to Cerequio. Aged in 25hl german and slavonian oak casks for around 30 months before two years aging in bottle.
