Castello di Verduno
Barolo, Monvigliero, 2018
justerini & brooks tasting note
Rich, intense aromatics of star anise, sage, camphor, and wild blue flowers with ripe strawberries and cherries, hedgerow fruits and herbs with supple, sweet powdery tannins. The most gorgeous pulpy fruits reverberate on the palate. So pure and beautiful, broad in scope but it finishes all along clean lines. Already a joy to drink. Bottled without the usual Riserva designation as Mario’s personal requirements stipulate that a Riserva should age for 30-40 years. In the case of the 2018, it is stunning already and should hold for twenty. Bottled after two years rather than three.
