Barolo, Percristina, 2000
This comes from the Mosconi Cru, a vineyard slope neighbouring the Ginestra with the same south east exposure. The powerful nature of the Mosconi wines sees them spend up to two years in French oak barriques. An expansive, mouth-filling wine, offering generous berry and black cherry fruit, with notes of fresh ground coffee. Its richness and warmth are offset beautifully by invigorating, cool mineral characteristics on the finish.
critic reviews
The 2000 Barolo Percristina has held up well. It shows considerable freshness in its dark red fruit, leather, licorice and sweet spices. The French oak remains very much present. It's hard to see the fruit lasting long enough for the oak to every truly integrate.
This bottle of the 2000 Barolo Percristina offers intense, exotic sensations of super-ripe fruit, menthol and minerals, with an opulent open-knit personality and superb persistence on the palate. Hard to resist now, it will be even better in a few years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel.
