    Fratelli Brovia, Barolo, Villero, 2017

    Justerini & Brooks Tasting note
    Fratelli Brovia, Barolo, Villero, 2017

Complex and gregarious, if very structured, offering an array of corpulent berry, plum, dried violet and tobacco leaf characteristics. Quite and extroverted and structured Villero but with more than enough flesh to cover the bones. From more compact clay soils than the Rocche facing south west, giving rounder more generous wines that nonetheless maintain a certain elegance. Aged in large used oak casks for two years.

The 2017 Barolo Villero is a powerful wine with a deep center of fruit and brawny tannins that wrap it all up. Dried cherry, red plum, rose petal, mint and spice abound. The Villero is a bit nervous today, then again, it is Villero. The 2017 is an eccentric wine that today appears to be lacking in freshness.

    Fratelli Brovia

Brovia are a traditional Barolo producer, in the winemaking sense not in the vineyard sense. That is to say yields are low but the fermentations are natural and happen in cement tanks before ageing in large old oak casks for 3 years. The estate is situated in Castiglione Falleto between Azelia and Scavino, their vineyards are spread over the Castiglione and Serralunga communes. The wines are pure, characterful and gripping but in a very gentle and moreish style, they have great intensity and charm whilst also expressing individuality and reflect the distinct differences between their great terroirs.
