Giovanni Corino
Barolo, Arborina, 2005
justerini & brooks tasting note
Arborina is usually one of the most structured La Morra Barolos, and that of the Giovanni Corino estate is no different. Broad-shouldered, meaty and more tannic than the Giachini, whilst boasting plenty of aromatic fruit – cranberries, redcurrants, sloe with a chocolate and oak spice richness, and a savoury undergrowth complexity.

The early harvest, naturally firm Nebbiolo tannin and more tannin from a high percentage of new barrels has ultimately proven to be too much for the 2005 Barolo Arborina's mid-weight personality. There is good aromatic presence in the glass, but my distinct impression is that the 2005 is a wine that will never be totally in balance.
