The 2018 Barolo Tre Tine from Giuseppe Rinaldi has lots of fresh earth and strawberry notes with some green herb, wild flowers and cream. In the background is some warm spice from older oak but the nose is appealingly perfumed and floral. On the palate there are creamy spice notes wrapped around warm strawberry fruit. There is an intensity and depth of flavor to this wine - it is a more traditional style, with quite extracted firm tannins but with lots of bright, juicy, mouthwatering acidity and very pretty, focused fruit. The finish lasts a long time. Traditional but with some joyful fruit at the heart, it is vibrant and perfumed. Wait two years and drink 20 plus.
The 2018 Barolo Tre Tine is a super-classic wine. It reminds me so much of a wine Beppe Rinaldi might have made. Readers will find an austere, taut Barolo built on energy and tension more than primary fruit. It's the sort of Barolo that blossoms only with time in bottle. Spice, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, dried cherry, macerated red cherry and anise start to open with a bit of coaxing. This is an intriguing wine, to say the least.
