Barbaresco, Asili, 2016
Smoother and sweeter fruit than the Paolin if a little more closed. Despite the aromatic red fruit profile there is a solidity and depth here. The tannins are very present initially at the front of the palate, but gradually melt into the wild strawberry, rose apricot and cherry fruit. A lot going on here, this will need time to show at its best. A south-facing sandy vineyard, one of the great crus of Barbaresco, producing some of the region’s most aromatic and elegant wines. After a two month submerged cap fermentation the wines are then aged in used Slavonian oak casks of 20-50hl for 24 months.
critic reviews
The 2016 Barbaresco Asili is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Crushed flowers, worn-in leather, spice, tobacco, cedar, orange peel and sweet dried cherries open in the bouquet. Aromatic and medium in body, the 2016 is open-knit, expressive and peaking. Soft, resolved tannins support the refined close.
